Your report has been received
Wildlife Victoria is a charity organisation made possible entirely by the generosity of the community and our dedicated volunteers. Wildlife Victoria has staff responding to your reports from 7:30am to 7:00pm. If reporting an emergency during this time, you will hear from an operator shortly.
Outside of these hours, when possible, Wildlife Victoria volunteers monitor emergencies reported through our website and answer calls made to 8400 7300, so you may hear from a volunteer soon if this is the case. However, please be aware that volunteers are not always available. In the event that a volunteer is not available to respond to your report, an operator will contact you tomorrow when our service opens at 7:30am. In the meantime, there are ways you can help.
A list of 24 hour vet clinics is available here (please click).
Road collision with a large animal
If you are reporting a large animal, such as a kangaroo or wombat, please stay at the scene with the animal and call triple zero (000) to contact the local police for assistance, especially if you know or suspect that the animal has been hit by a vehicle.
Small animals needing help
If your call is about a small animal such as a possum or bird with obvious injuries, it is essential that a vet examines the animal as soon as practicable. Wearing gloves, you can use a towel or blanket to cover the animal, pick it up gently and firmly, and place it in a well-ventilated box for transporting to a vet clinic. Most animals other than reptiles will benefit from heat, especially baby animals. A bottle filled with hot water from the tap and wrapped in a towel is suitable. A list of 24 hour vet clinics is available here (please click). Many local clinics in regional areas offer after-hours contact numbers on their websites.
Bats
If you are reporting a bat or flying-fox, please do not touch this animal. It may carry a harmful virus which is transferable to humans through scratches or bites. If you have been bitten or scratched, seek urgent medical assistance.
Marine
If your call is regarding a marine animal, such as a seal or dolphin, please contact the marine response unit on 0447 158 676.
