Sean the world famous koala!

Sean the famous koalaSean the koala has hit the headlines worldwide today after he was reported to Wildlife Victoria’s Emergency Response Service last night. The caller Callum noticed him looking disoriented beside a road in Langwarrin. Sean had no visible injuries but Callum could tell that something wasn’t right and suspected that he may have been struck by a car. Luckily Callum knew to call Wildlife Victoria.

Emergency Response Operator Robbie swiftly connected Callum with local volunteer Michelle.

On arrival, Michelle noticed Sean had managed to clamber high up in a tree. It was decided that we would enlist the help of the Country Fire Authority (CFA).

Volunteer Captain Sean Curtain arrived with his team ready to assist. As Captain Sean reached the top of his ladder, he noticed that the koala had lost consciousness. Quick thinking saw Captain Sean drop the koala to the ground, where his team of helpers caught him in a blanket.

Volunteers Sean and Michelle worked together as a team to resuscitate him. After some tense moments Sean began to growl and sprung back to life. The entire ordeal was captured in a dramatic video.

This event reminds us that the passion of dedicated volunteers can save lives. We are enormously grateful to Michelle and the CFA for responding as quickly as they could. Without them and Wildlife Victoria’s Emergency Response Service who connected Callum with the right people, things may have ended differently for Sean.
