RACV Wild Bytes - Stories From Your Backyard

How many ‘wildlife warriors’ do we have out there? Do you think you feel well-equipped to deal with a situation involving an injured or orphaned animal if you came across one in your daily life?

Our RACV Wild Bytes – Stories From Your Backyard events are tailored for those who are keen to learn and want to help, but don’t quite know how to start. We’ll share tips on how to handle orphaned joeys, how to avoid swooping birds, what to do if you hear a possum in your roof, how to attract native birds into your backyard (and why we shouldn’t feed them), why our fruit tree netting can be deadly to wildlife and how to be a thoughtful and responsible pet owner. We’ll also share a long list of amazing wildlife rescue stories shared by those who handled them first-hand.

There is actually a lot you can do for wildlife in your own backyard, and we’re here to help. In the meantime, have a look at our helpful fact sheets for some guidance.

As RACV’s Environment & Sustainability partner, we will be presenting our events right around Melbourne and regional Victoria, and more recently, we've extended our sessions to primary and secondary schools. Scroll down for more information.

Wildlife Victoria Education Program

We also offer our RACV Wild Bytes - Stories From Your Backyard program to schools an alternative education session which aims to involve families and wider communities with helpful tips about helping wildlife in your own backyard.  This shorter and free session will generally take place after school-hours to allow for families to join in the discussion.
