Unique. Diverse. In trouble. Every Australian species is precious.....

Australia is home to an incredibly diverse range of wildlife. Some are well-known and iconic like the koala, emu and kangaroo, but there are so many others that are almost unknown, even to Australians. Many of our native wildlife are endangered and at risk of extinction.

According to Tourism Australia, we have "more than 378 mammal species, 828 bird species,  4000 fish species, 300 species of lizards, 140 snake species, 2 crocodile species and around 50 types of marine mammals".

More than 80% of our mammals, frogs, reptiles and birds are unique to Australia and not found in any other part of the world. Shockingly, Australia has the highest loss of biodiversity - and second highest mammal extinction rate - in the world*.

Every day Wildlife Victoria receives dozens of calls to rescue our unique and precious Australian native wildlife. Your donation will ensure our Wildlife Emergency Response Service is there to help all of Australia's native wildlife.

In recent months we've assisted animals from:

  • 8 of the 39 Critically Endangered species in Victoria**
  • 33 of the 51 Endangered species in Victoria
  • 41 of the 71 Vulnerable species in Victoria
  • 36 of the 54 Near Threatened species in Victoria
  • Over 270 native species

Please make a donation to Wildlife Victoria TODAY to help rescue and protect our rare and endangered species.

How your donation helps

Your donation today will help to run our Wildlife Emergency Response Service, which takes over 80,000 calls a year about more than 270 native species - all without any government assistance. We couldn't do any of it without community support.

You'll also be helping to train wildlife rescue volunteers to assist sick, injured and orphaned native creatures, and educating schools, businesses and community groups about the incredible wildlife we have here in Victoria.
