There are many ways you can help Wildlife Victoria, in some cases you don't need to leave your home; or you can get involved with hands-on animalrescues. This varying level of volunteering means we can find something for almost anyone who wants to help.
- Emergency Phone – is Wildlife Victoria’s 24-hour wildlife emergency telephone service. The Emergency Phone is manned by volunteers who direct the phone to their homes. All new the Emergency Phone Operators are trained by experienced Emergency Phone operators to handle the calls. More information on volunteering for the Emergency Phone can be found on the Emergency Phone page.
- Fundraising – Wildlife Victoria’s costs are met by membership fees, a small thrift shop and fundraising activities. If you think you can help with the fundraising then please contact us.
- Rescue and Transport – the Emergency Phone operators often need to arrange rescues and transport of injured wildlife. Volunteers are called on when a rescue is needed in the locality they have nominated to cover. R&T volunteers are given full training, are supplied with safety equipment where they undertake a large number of roadside rescues and have their own network which functions through their own R&T newsletter. For more information on becoming a Rescuer and Transporter see the Rescue page, or contact us.
- Constructing Possum Boxes - Shelter operators are always in need of housing for possums getting ready for release. Only basic tools and knowledge of carpentry are required - the Victorian Department of Sustainability and the Environment provide excellent instructions on how to do this.
- Campaign Lobbying – Wildlife Victoria is sensitive to the issues facing wildlife and will get involved in promoting the welfare of wildlife. If you are interested in what campaigns Wildlife Victoria is currently undertaking, see our Campaigns page.
- Wildlife Carer – In Victoria, government regulations limit who can take care of Australian native animals. If you are interested in finding our more information on how to apply to become a Wildlife Carer then contact us or the Department of Sustainability and Environment. To find out more about the role of the Wildlife Carer see our Rehabilitation page.
- Op-Shop volunteer - The Op-shop in Heidelberg West needs you to help with sorting, sales, pricing and various other roles. For a full job description email Wildlife Victoria.
