Kangaroo Killer - update

PDF Print

Hope for justice in kangaroo cruelty case thwarted as another extension granted

Beau, the young kangaroo who was ruthlessly shot through the head with an arrow in a horrific attack of cruelty that made world news will have to wait longer for justice as his alleged killer walks out of court again without answering for his actions.

The case was adjourned once already on June 25th and has once again been adjourned to a tentative date of 8th October.

Despite surgery and expert care Beau later died from his injuries. His brave story touched people all around the world. Hope, his female companion who had the end of an arrow imbedded in her rump in a separate attack, survived and was released back to her family mob once her injuries were healed.

Wildlife Victoria hopes that his death was not in vain. Executive Officer, Sandy Fernee, said “this serves as a reminder and a warning, kangaroos are a protected species and heavy penalties can be incurred by offenders. People are shocked that this sort of cruelty and behaviour is happening in their communities.”

A $10,000 AD reward is still pending for a successful prosecution under the Victorian Wildlife Act or the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
