Hope and Beau Recovering from the Arrows of Cruelty

PDF Print

Beau 1Hope and Beau, the two young Eastern Grey Kangaroos that were callously struck with arrows and left to suffer and die are recovering at a shelter near Healesville.

Wildlife Victoria rescuer Narelle Smith who assisted in the rescue of both Hope and Beau has been visiting them daily to give their medication and check on how they are doing.

Beau 2Ms Smith said,” Kangaroos are such gentle and kind creatures, they don’t deserve this.  We do have some concerns for Hopes injury; so far Beau’s injuries are healing as well as can be expected.  They are both going on a follow up visit to the Healesville Hospital Thursday morning (14th May), so we’ll go from there.”

These shocking displays of cruelty have horrified both animal welfare groups and the public alike calling for tougher penalties for animal cruelty and wildlife offences.

“At the moment they are in separate enclosures because of the stitches on their wounds but they can see each other from where they are and will be placed together at the end of the week to finish their recovery before being reunited with their family,” continued Ms. Smith.

The incidents are being investigated by Victorian police and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.

“Beau is a very handsome young kangaroo; I reckon Hope has her eye on him, you never know they might hook up later and have a little joey, and perhaps it could be called Justice!” Ms Smith concluded.
